FORT THOMAS CITY COUNCIL

MAYOR: Mary H. Brown

Mayor Brown140 Highland Avenue

Mary and Bart Brown have been residents of Ft. Thomas since 1966. They have 7 children and 17 grandchildren. Mary was elected to City Council in 1977 and has been a member of the Board of Council for 29 years. She served as Mayor Pro Tem for 2 terms, then was elected and sworn in as Mayor in 1999. She graduated from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College, and is a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, where she is chairman of the Worship Committee and a member of the R.C.I.A. team. Mary served on the Board of Trustees of the Greater Cincinnati United Way & Community Chest and chaired the Self-sufficient People Vision Council. Mary has been involved in community activities and organizations for many years and in 1989, was named one of the Cincinnati Enquirer's "Women of the Year." She is a volunteer on the Ministry Team of the St. Luke Hospital, and a board member of the Thomas More College Foundation. Since becoming Mayor, she has joined in the River Cities Government Coalition of SouthBank Partners, the OKI board of trustees and the Hillside Trust Board.

MAYOR PRO TEM: Eric A. Haas

Eric Haas began serving on City Council in 1997. He works with his family’s business, National Band & Tag Co., in Newport and is co-owner of the Hofbrauhaus in Newport. He and his wife, Jan have 3 children. Eric is a graduate of Highlands High School, 1974, and Hanover College, 1978. He is a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Newport.

A former Newport City Commissioner, Eric is still involved in several Newport committees. He is Chair of Brighton Properties, Inc. He serves on the Campbell County Leadership Action Group, the River Cities Coalition and Northern Ky. Municipal Government League. He is on the Board of Directors for the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. He is a member of the Ft. Thomas Lions Club. He also helps Jan with her preschool, Trent Montessori.

Currently Eric is the Mayor Pro-Tem of Council. He is also currently Chairman of the Public Works Committee of Council, a member of the Finance Committee, and the Public Safety Committee.

COUNCIL MEMBER: James A. Doepker

70 Walden Lane

Jim and his wife Darcy have been residents of Ft. Thomas for over 30 years where they raised their 5 children and currently reside at 70 Walden Lane. Jim has been active at his church, St. Catherine of Siena, as a Eucharistic minister, lector, parish council president, finance council president and school board president.

Jim holds BSCE and MSCE degrees from UK and a JD degree from Chase College of Law. He is a registered professional engineer in Ohio and Kentucky and was admitted to the practice of Law in Ohio. His business, J.A. Doepker Assoc., Inc. has been located in the City for over 25 years. Prior to City Council, Jim served multiple terms on the Ft. Thomas Planning and Zoning Commission where he served as Chairman for several years.

He has served on City Council for 8 years and is Chairman of the Public Safety Committee and a member of the Public Works Committee, and the Law-Labor-License Committee. He has also served 2 terms on the Ky. Board of Building, Housing and New Construction representing Kentucky’s Professional Engineers, and currently serves on the Kentucky Building Code Appeals Board of Campbell County.

In addition to membership in various professional and civic organizations, Jim has served the Diocesan Catholic Children’s Home as Chairman of the Board for 3 years, as a founding Board member and Board officer for Housing Opportunities of Northern Kentucky, as President of the Board at Campbell Lodge Boys Home, and currently sits on the Campbell Lodge Boys Home Foundation Board, and on the Sisters of Divine Providence Development Board.


COUNCIL MEMBER: Barbara Thompson-Levine

18 Lafayette Avenue

Barbara Thompson-Levine grew up in Fort Thomas. She attended Ruth Moyer Elementary and is a graduate of Highlands High School. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Human Resource Development. Her husband Rob is a manager at Barnes & Noble in Newport. Barbara works for a Social Service Agency in Cincinnati where she manages the volunteer program and community relations.

Barbara is a long time supporter and instructor at the Campbell County YMCA. She has a very active family life and enjoys volunteer work, gardening, and golf. She and Rob live on the same street where she grew up and her parents still live. Her sister, Elizabeth McDougal, also works at the YMCA and has two daughters. Barbara’s nieces attend Woodfill school. Her grandmother is a resident at the Highlands.

Barbara is the chairperson of the Public Utilities and Buildings Committee. She also sits on the Recreation Committee and the Law, Labor, and License Committee.

COUNCIL MEMBER: Tom Lampe

24 Orchard Hill Road

Tom and his wife Kim are lifelong residents of Fort Thomas, where they are raising their three children, Tyler, Will, and John. Tom is a graduate of St. Thomas Elementary School, St. Xavier High School and Xavier University. He has a BSBA in Marketing, 1984.

He is very active at his church, St. Catherine of Siena, and serves on the Board of Catholic Education’s School Committee. Tom is also a member of the Lion’s Club of Fort Thomas and has served on its Board of Directors.

This is Tom's second term on City Council. He is Chairman of the Recreation Committee, and is a member of the Public Works Committee and the Finance Committee. Tom is Director of Business Development at Tapke Asset Management in Ft. Wright, KY.


COUNCIL MEMBER: Roger L. Peterman

Roger, his wife Mary, and three children have been residents of Ft. Thomas for over 21 years. He is serving his third term on City Council and is Chairman of the Finance Committee. He is also a member of the Public Utilities and Buildings Committee and the Recreation Committee. He is a graduate of UK, with a BA is Economics and received his JD in Law in 1979. He is currently a partner in the law firm of Peck, Shaffer, & Williams, LLP, having a practice dealing primarily with state and local government finance.

His other government experience includes serving as executive director of the Kentucky Development Finance Authority (1980-1983), as Chairman of the Northern Kentucky Port Authority (1986-present) and on various committees of the Northern Kentucky Area Development District.

In addition to his government experience, Roger has served on board of several community organizations, including Tri-County Economic Development Corporation, the Northern Ky. Chamber of Commerce, Northern Ky. Family Health Center, Inc. and South Bank Partners. Roger has also served on special committees for groups as diverse as Northern Ky, University and the Ky. High School Athletics Association.

Roger is a graduate of the Leadership Northern Kentucky and Leadership Kentucky Programs. He is a member of the Municipal Attorneys Association of Ky., the Ky. League of Cities and the Ky. Association of Counties.

COUNCIL MEMBER: Jill Grover Steller

165 Highview Drive

Jill Steller is a lifelong resident of Fort Thomas. She and her husband Bob, have three children. Jill is a graduate of Highlands High School, has a B.S. degree in nursing from UK and an M.S. degree from Boston University.

Jill has served on the Fort Thomas Planning and Zoning Commission. She and her family are actively involved in the First Presbyterian Church where she has served as an Elder. Her volunteer work has included scouts, YMCA board of directors, PTA/PTO boards, Highlands Athletic Booster Association, Charities Guild, and the Fine Arts Fund. She has worked as a clinical nurse specialist at St. Luke Hospital and taught continuing education at Holmes/University Hospital. She currently works as a substitute teacher in the Fort Thomas School District.
