New and Upcoming Projects by the City
Update of City Projects:
Tower Park Amphitheatre - The newly constructed
Amphitheatre officially opened on July 4, 2010 and has hosted
the 2011 Summer Concert Series. During that time final grading
and drainage infrastructure was completed. Fall 2011/Spring
2012 will provide the General Services Department some opportunity
for continuing with the "Master Plan" for this facility.
The first phase will include providing stairs and accessibility
ramps into the viewing areas within the side and vegetation on
the entire site. The next phase will involve the General Services
Department constructing a hardscape/landscape "promenade"
viewing area along the street frontage of the entire site. This
work will include walkways, tree plantings, lighting, and other
amenities (benches, tables, etc.) Weather permitting, this area
will reflect quite a transformation before the 2012 summer concert
season begins.
Tower Park / Highland Hills Park - These parks
saw impressive changes with construction of new picnic shelters
and restroom facilities. At this time, these projects are essentially
complete and available for public use. Please see the Recreation
Department news/link for details!
Tower Park Ballfield is closed for the remainder
of this season as the General Services Department has initiated
work to the playing infield. Drainage improvement, re-grading,
and reduction of the infield size are the major focus. This
Fall season will be utilized to re-seed affected areas to allow
for increased use beginning in Spring 2012.
Rossford Park - Century Construction continues
to progress with completion of the entire reconstruction that
began in late Summer 2010. The project has progressed well with
scheduled completion targeted for November 1, 2011. Countryside
Play Structures will supplement this project with installation
of a total design playground beginning in early November, 2011.
The playing fields were planted in mid September and the parking
lot and lower practice field will be the last items completed.
The park will remain closed until Spring 2012,
to allow full vegetative growth and total completion. Visitors
will be restricted until that time.
2011 Sidewalk Replacement Program - The General
Services Department performed replacement of defective sidewalk
blocks along the entire frontage of Highland Avenue this spring
as part of the City's comprehensive Sidewalk Replacement Program.
This program also addressed reconstruction of sidewalks abutting
the streets included in the 2011 Street Resurfacing Program.
The last phase of the annual program includes
replacement of the sidewalks on Haywood Court and Winding Way.
This construction was initiated in late September and may carry
over for completion in Spring 2012.
2011 Street Resurfacing Program - Barrett
Paving is currently working on resurfacing of all the streets
in the 2011 Program. (Azalea Terrace, Brittany Lane, Buddy Court,
Burnet Ridge, Devon Court, Elmwood Avenue, Jennifer Court, East
and West Kimberly, Overlook Drive, Patricia Court) Upon completion
of paving, they will return to perform crack sealing along the
gutters.
The General Services Department performed
sidewalk, curb, driveway apron, and drainage reconstruction work
on all these streets in advance of Barrett paving initiating
their work.
The project is slated for completion by mid
October with a final public inspection of improvements scheduled
for Thursday, October 20, 2011 at 5:00 p.m.
