ORDINANCE O-2-2010

 

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE “FORT THOMAS POLICE DEPARTMENT POLICY AND PROCEDURES MANUAL” BY ADDING POLICIES PERTAINING TO FOOT PURSUIT, SAFE INFANT ACT, GOLDEN ALERT, MISSING PERSONS, AND LIMITED ENGLISH PROFICIENCY; AND AMENDING POLICIES PERTAINING TO EVIDENCE AND PROPERTY MANAGEMENT AND FIREARMS CARE, USAGE AND MAINTENANCE. 

 

            WHEREAS, it is incumbent upon the city to review its policies and procedures to determine effectiveness; and

 

            WHEREAS, when it is determined that city policies and procedures should be amended to enhance their effectiveness then such changes should be effectuated by city; and

 

            WHEREAS, the Board of Council hereby finds that certain additions and amendments to the “Fort Thomas Police Department Policy and Procedures Manual” are necessary to enhance effectiveness of same.

 

            NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE BOARD OF COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF FORT THOMAS, CAMPBELL COUNTY, KENTUCKY, AS FOLLOWS:

 

SECTION I

 

            That the Fort Thomas Police Department Policy and Procedures Manual is hereby amended to include the following new policies attached hereto as Exhibit A, and listed by title as follows:

 

1.      Foot Pursuit – required for Accreditation

2.      Safe Infant Act – required for Accreditation

3.      Golden Alert – required for Accreditation

4.      Missing Persons – required for Accreditation

5.      Limited English Proficiency – necessary for Federal Grant eligibility

 

SECTION II

 

            That the following existing policies of the Fort Thomas Police Department Policy and Procedures Manual are hereby amended to incorporate the language as outlined on Exhibit B attached hereto, and listed by title as follows:

 

1.      Evidence and Property Management – necessary due to building renovations

2.      Firearms – Care, Usage, and Maintenance – to specify the type of handgun ammunition used by the department.

 

SECTION III

 

            That the additions and amendments described herein have been enacted on an interim basis pending consideration by the Board of Council in accordance with Ordinance O-25-2008.  And that such interim basis shall not exceed ninety (90) days.

 

SECTION IV

 

            That this Ordinance shall take effect from and after the earliest date provided by law following its adoption and publication as required by law.
