Burglar on bike apprehended

On July 8, 2010 Larry Hamilton age 48 was arrested by Cincinnati, Green Township and Delhi Township for Burglary. The suspect would ride a mountain bike (mid to late 90's GT Timberline purple and black in excellent condition) from his motel room at the Travel Lodge in Newport, KY. Delhi Township Police in Ohio located the subject breaking into homes using the bike as a get-a-way. The suspect would use whatever was accessible around a residence to break a window or door to gain entry. Once inside he would look for money and jewelry. The Fort Thomas Police Department learned of the Delhi arrest so we responded to interview the suspect. During the interview, the subject admitted to breaking into numerous homes in the Fort Thomas area.

CSI Class:

In July we will have the 4th CSI class at HMS. This will be week long collaboration with the Fort Thomas Schools in providing hands-on instruction to children in the CSI: Fort Thomas. The children will be instructed in proper evidence handling, documentation of the scene and how it relates to math and science. Sergeant Chris Carpenter and Officers William Hunt & Michael Dietz will provide instruction to the class. In the past three years, the program was so well received by students, administration and parents that we immediately began plans for the 4th class this year. If your child is interested please call Officer Hunt at 859-572-1269.

Check on Me Program:

If they are experiencing an emergency, help will be sent. CHECK ON ME is a FREE, computerized telephone reassurance program for the elderly or homebound individuals. The computer will make calls every day at a given time. For more information please call Lt. Whitford at (859) 441-6562. Participation in CHECK ON ME is at the request of the individual for his/her own personal benefit to protect his/her health and safety and to arrange for assistance in the event of an emergency which renders him/her unable to call for aid.

Citizens Police Academy Class

The Fort Thomas Police Department is now preparing for another Citizen's Police Academy. The ten-week academy which meets one night a week, is scheduled to begin September 7th, and is designed to provide the citizens an overview of our department's policies and procedures. This program will provide community members with an inside look at local law enforcement. During the Academy, students will be introduced to our community based police service and training topics include police ethics, internal affairs, drug enforcement, traffic law, criminal investigations, and firearm safety. These weekly sessions are not designed to make the participant a police officer, but hopefully provide a greater awareness and understanding of law enforcement's role in the community. Applications are available on the City's website, under the police department link or call Officer William Hunt at 859-572-1269.

In January our Department began experimenting with a new user friendly system that distributes information out to Fort Thomas Residents called "Nixle". This Alert Network is officially up and running. Fort Thomas Police Department encourages all citizens to sign up at www.Nixle.com. Nixle is a FREE community information service provider exclusively designed to be a secure and reliable communications platform for public safety agencies. These messages can be received through a variety of ways, all selected by the user. FTPD plans to use Nixle to provide Fort Thomas residents with news and information that is both proximate and personally relevant to your property or community. Upon signing up, trusted neighborhood news and information is sent to your mobile phone or email, directly from the Fort Thomas Police Department when important information or criminal activity is occurring in your neighborhood. If you're having any sign-up or technical problems, please call Lt. Fecher at 441-6562. There is no fee for the service and guarantees your privacy.
