P R O C L A M A T I O N

 

WHEREAS:   An average of 65 Kentuckians a day sustain a brain injury severe enough to seek medical assistance; and

 

WHEREAS: Kentucky’s rate of head injury is twice the national average; and

 

WHEREAS:  Brain injury is the leading cause of death and disability in young children; and

 

WHEREAS:  A person with a brain injury is 3 times more likely to sustain another brain injury; and

 

WHEREAS:  Brain injury is 6 times more prevalent than breast cancer, HIV/AIDS, spinal cord injury, and  muscular sclerosis combined; and

 

WHEREAS:   The only cures for brain injury are prevention and research; and

 

WHEREAS:   March is National Brain Injury Awareness Month

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, MARY H. BROWN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF FORT THOMAS, do hereby proclaim March 16, 2011 as

 

Brain Injury Awareness Day

 

in the City of Fort Thomas, and urge all citizens to work together to prevent brain injuries, to educate others about the affects of brain injury, and to support brain injury survivors and their families.
