P R O C L A M A T I O N

 

 

WHEREAS, Jim Bunning was born in Southgate, Kentucky, the son of Gladys and Louis Aloysius Bunning and is married to Mary Catherine Theis, they have 5 daughters and 4 sons; and

 

WHEREAS, Bunning graduated from St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati in 1949 and later received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Xavier University, and

 

WHEREAS, during a 17 year baseball career, he pitched from 1955 to 1971, most notably with the Detroit Tigers and the Philadelphia Phillies, he had the second-highest total of career strikeouts in Major League history, he is currently 17th; and

 

WHEREAS, after retiring from baseball, Bunning returned to his native Northern Kentucky and was subsequently elected to Fort Thomas City Council for 2 years, and then state senate, in which he served as a minority leader, and

 

WHEREAS, In 1986, Bunning was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Kentucky’s 4th congressional district and served in the U.S. House from 1987 to 1998; and

 

WHEREAS, In 1998 Jim Bunning was elected to the United States Senate from Kentucky where he served as a U.S. Senator from 1999 to 2010; and

 

WHEREAS, on July 4, 2011 Mr. Jim Bunning will represent the City of Fort Thomas as our Grand Marshall in the Independence Day Parade.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, I, MARY H. BROWN, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF FORT THOMAS, CAMPBELL COUNTY, KENTUCKY, DO HEREBY RECOGNIZE:

 

 

   JIM BUNNING

 

                  

 as Grand Marshall of the 2011 City of Fort Thomas, Kentucky, Independence Day Parade and call upon all citizens to honor him. In Witness Thereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Official Seal of the City to be affixed this 4th day of July, 2011.
