JOURNEY STORIES

On Saturday, December 10, the Smithsonian traveling exhibit, "Journey Stories," begins at the Community Center in Tower Park at noon. We will start off with a bang! We are bringing the music of our ancestors to Fort Thomas. The Northern Kentucky Brotherhood will be bringing a concert at noon. Wait until you hear this! At 2:00 the Diamond Head Bluegrass Band will perform. Both concerts are free though we LOVE a donation! On Sunday at 2:00 the Hilltop Dulcimer Band will play their very special music. More than 50 quilts are being loaned for this show. Great family stories are told through these homemade quilts. Besides the quilt and textile exhibit a model of the USS Orlick, named for Fort Thomas' Joe Orlick, will be displayed along with a painting of Joe and his Navy Cross. A rosary that traveled through three major wars, clothing worn by long gone family members, doilies crocheted by the wife of the shoe cobbler for the ArmyFort--all will be shown and their stories told. The Smithsonian exhibit comes courtesy of the Kentucky Humanities Council and the Fort Thomas Military and Community Museum. This exhibit will begin December 10 and end January 21, 2012. It will be open daily noon until 4:00. It will be closed for the holiday December 23-25 and December 30-January 1. If you have a group that would like to attend, please contact me so that we can schedule you. We have several groups already signed up and we want to make sure you get special treatment! This entire event will be manned by volunteers.
