RESOLUTION NO. R-06-2011

 

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF FORT THOMAS, CAMPBELL COUNTY, KENTUCKY, EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO POSSIBLE CLOSURE OF THE FORT THOMAS POST OFFICE

 

WHEREAS, the United States Postal Service has embarked on a massive drive to close post offices throughout the United States, mostly small rural post offices; and 

 

WHEREAS, more than 3600 post offices are scheduled to be closed this year and 12,000 additional small post offices stand ready to be closed in the next several years; and

 

WHEREAS, the Postal Service operates without any tax dollars, thus the closing of small post offices has no effect on federal tax revenues/government spending, or the federal deficit; and

 

WHEREAS, the Fort Thomas, Kentucky Post Office branch is a VITAL part of daily economic and community activity in Fort Thomas and allows businesses and residents the opportunity to do business in our local environment; and

 

WHEREAS, the closing of the Fort Thomas, Kentucky Post Office branch would have an adverse impact locally on business development, existing businesses and jobs, and senior citizens, resulting in great harm to the community.

 

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THIS 6th DAY OF SEPTEMBER 2011, BY THE CITY OF FORT THOMAS, CAMPBELL COUNTY, KENTUCKY:

 

            That the Mayor and Board of Council hereby express opposition to the possible closure of the Fort Thomas Post Office.

 

That this Resolution shall be signed by the Mayor, attested by the City Clerk, recorded, and shall become effective upon its adoption.
